Abbreviation for Standard Generalized Markup Language
This was developed mainly by the U.S. Department of Defense and other organizations as a description method (language) for describing manuals and other documents, and has been standardized as an international standard (ISO 8879) and Japanese JIS (JIS 4151). It is utilized for digitizing parts information and manuals in defense-related industries, the aircraft industry, and automobile industry.
